Numerous hiking and cycling routes have been set out throughout the area, including one to the Sněžka (Snow Head) at Pec pod Sněžkou, the highest mountain in the Czech Republic, also accessible by chair lift (closed on Fridays). The cycling routes are signed; mountain bikes are available for rent in Jilemnice. In Liberec is the subtropical swimming paradise Babylon, a "must" for the children. On the south side of Vrchlabí is a lake for swimming, a sandy beach and a slide. Fly fishing in the Jizera is possible with a permit, available at the local tourist offices.
